November 26’th is Small Business Saturday in both Canada and the U.S., and supporting small businesses is more important than ever. With the pandemic in 2020, many small businesses have turned to online sales as a means of survival. In Canada, a third of small businesses have started offering online sales and that growth is expected to continue. So, although Small Business Saturday was originally started to support local bricks and mortar stores, it has expanded to include small, independent online shops.
Prior to COVID, many of my weekends were spent participating in crafts shows across Southwestern Ontario. When everything shut down, I did some serious soul-searching, and decided to focus entirely on ecommerce. I sold off all my equipment and have been happily operating my online shop fulltime with no plans to head back out on the road.
This year’s holiday season is especially critical, with so many business owners not only trying to recover financially post-pandemic, but we’re also now dealing with an economic downturn and many shoppers will be spending less than in previous years.
Keep Sparkling!

If you’re a fan of period dramas, chances are you’re familiar with this fashion icon of the 1920’s, the Cloche. With the popularity of Downton Abbey and Boardwalk Empire in 2010, followed by Peaky Blinders in 2013, the fashions, jewellery and hats of the 1920s peaked our interest—and it certainly did mine. I fell in love with the classic bell shape silhouette of the hat and the beautiful detailing on them.
